Lego 'Greg' making an appearance. My mate's kid will hopefully own a Lego man that has summited Everest.
These are the first pair of Lowa boots that I have owned. Comparing to Scarpa and La Sportiva, the sizing seems to fit in-between the two brands. Hard to judge but 'feels' about right.
I have not broken these in whatsoever and they have been very comfortable so far. The fit is fantastic and the construction seems top quality. I think the quality is better than La Sportiva (only based on this singular boot comparison!) and on par with Scarpa. I think Scarpas are pretty good.
The main points:
1) The forefoot lace lock (I-Lock) -works a treat.
3) Excellent rear crampon welt.
4) Balls in the lace hooks make for smooth lacing.
5) The Tongue Stud/X-Lacing is really awesome. The tongue just stays perfectly centered (or however you set it up).
6) Solid rubber rand and well finished at the toe.
7) Nice inner -comfy and warm.
8) Nothing special about the sole as all Vibram soles are good, so not much differentiation.
9) It is lined with Gore-Tex so it should be uber waterproof.
I think the main reason I like this boot is that it was comfy straight away. No break-in required. The blue is also quite funky, and you know me, I like to stand out like there is no tomorrow :-). These puppies should see me through a couple of expeditions with all my uncoordinated feet hitting every rock that comes close to my feet, and the high ankle will stop the dreaded rolled ankle syndrome.
I can definitely recommend these boots for trekking.
