2024 Sep-Georgia Sat 14. Telavi and Gremi

Bye bye Azerbaijan.

It was a simple day of travelling from Sheki, Azerbaijan to Telavi, Georgia.

In the morning I had to remind the tour guide that he still had the local market tour in Sheki to do. The guide and the driver had forgotten and the vehicle was leaving the city. Lucky I picked it up as I had walked the empty markets the day before. I should be a tour guide.

Then it was a longish drive to the border between Azerbaijan and Georgia. It was a simple process to exit one and enter the other.

As we drove towards Telavi we stopped at at Gremi Complex. Took some pictures. A bride and groom party were also visiting Gremi. I would see them at Telavi later that day.

We had lunch at a winery. They were setting up for a wedding party that night. Seems like everyone is getting married.

The scenery changed drastically once you cross the border into Georgia. The quality of infrastructure in rural Georgia is much better than rural Azerbaijan. The quality of life appears to be better. This is wine producing region.

When we arrived at the hotel in Telavi it was all go, go, go. It is a small place so I was able to walk and see everything easily. I even went wondering in the backstreets and found the abandoned church and wall. Staying in Telavi for one night (afternoon arrival) was enough.

I even ran into a soccer team staying at the hotel. One of them said they were playing Iran. Who knows if they are a good team or not?

Only three more days on the tour. I will stay for one extra day to see Tibilisi in its entirety. I have no need to return this way as both Azerbaijan and Georgia are small countries. Make the most of it whilst I am here.
