2024 Oct-Turkey Fri 11. Selcuk

A big daytrip tour day (time wise).

The first stop (30mins) was at Meryemana (the Ephesus House of Virgin Mary). It really is only a 10-15min stop. The rest of the time is for souvenir shopping or coffee. It is too early in the morning for either.

The second stop is just down the road to the Ancient City of Ephesus. It was stinking sunny and hot but worrh the visit to see the Greek structures. The 3D museum show was pretty good as well.

We went to lunch. The food was identical to the Turkish food back in Canberra. It just means that the Turkish restaurants in Canberra are doing an authentic job.

With any day tours there is the obvious 'hard sell' visit...to a carpet weaving store. They brought out the young and pretty girl to try the hard sell on me, after the young man failed to sell me anything.

She would start with some basic chitchat before trying to entice me with buying something small. My retort was that I had hardwood floors and I was married, just not wearing my wedding ring. She suggested I buy a silk carpet to hang as art. My counter is that I have a simple place that frees the mind.

The will to sell was admirable. But she was up against an expert...an asian Gil that rarely opens his wallet for junk.

Then it was off to The Temple of Artemis. Only one pillar remains. Anti climatic. Very disappointing indeed.

We finished off with a visit to Sirince. Here we has some wine tasting and walked through the village.

When I returned to the hotel it was time for a quick swim. Followed by a shower and off for some dinner...icecream...because lunch was already filling.
