We left Selcuk by train this morning. We arrived at our Pamukkale hotel at around 1pm.
I skipped lunch and went straight to the town centre to have a look around. There is really nothing much to see in the town. The only attraction is the Hierapolis Pamukkale.
The Hierapolis is large. It takes a while to walk all the sites. The main features are the high calcium bicarbonate pools (the travertine limestone terraces) and the old Greek remaining structures.
I made sure I walked as much as I could to see everything that was open. I did however miss out on the museum as I didnt plan well enough.
The Cleopatra Ancient Pool was something I had wanted to swim in. However, when I saw the subantial floating algae, the shallowness of the pool swimming area (adult waist height in most places), and how small the pools actually are, with the high volume of people there, it was an easy decision to skip paying for the swim. It is better to look at the pools...which really were 'anticlimactic'.
I had my afternoon swim at the hotel. The entire pool to myself. The only waves were created by me. No one getting in the way.
Pamukkale can be easily seen in totality in 6-7hrs. Lucky we had enough time to enjoy it all. It is definitely time to leave tomorrow morning for something different.
